Antiques: - Variant: old - belonging to, made in, or typical of an earlier period or an artefact surviving from the past
As a general rule, an item may well be considered Antique if it is over 100 years old. This is only a guide and certainly many items may be considered an antique if it is only a few decades old i.e. A Black & White Television produced in the 1960's could today be considered a collectable antique!
More traditionally, very old furniture, fine art, porcelain, ivory, jewellery, silverware and gold etc. which adorned the palaces and mansions then owned by the upper classes in past eras will today have possibly found it's way onto the open market.
Antique Teapot - Böttger Teapot sells for £9,500 ($18,500) in 2006
Collectibles: - Variant: collectables - things considered to be worth collecting (not necessarily valuable or antique) something unusual -- perhaps worthy of collecting.
Many items manufactured recently that are collectable today can become more valuable in years to come simply because they are collectable - often with people who wish to create a theme or enjoy a hobby that's affordable. Naturally, scarcity will boost the inherent value of such collection in years to come. Walk into most homes and you will see a range of items that form a collection of some description - figurines, stamps, dolls, ornaments etc!
 Collectible Teapots valued at around £20 - £50 ($40 - $100) each in 2007
Investigating the values of vintage and collectible toys is an exciting process. Toys are highly sought by collectors for many reasons, not the least of which is nostalgia. After all, who doesn’t remember a favorite childhood toy, either one you owned or one you loved? In one form or another, collectible toys nearly always make the top 20 lists of items sought or sold at fairs, auctions and antique shops. Many of the more popular collectable toys may bring back fond memories of your own youth.
Wooden toys and models, especially trucks and cars, are always a big hit in fairs – especially those that were handcrafted by well-known toy makers half a century or more ago. Similarly, diecast cars and trucks are also highly prized by many toy collectors. Franklin Mint diecast cars and trucks from the early 1900s. That famous Meccano Set or Triang / Hornby model train makers are more examples.
Toys that commemorate a fictional character or a real personality are also popular for cvollescting. Space toys from the 1960s, Evel Knievel toys from the 1970s, Strawberry Shortcake, Holly Hobbie, Raggedy Ann and Andy, and Barbie dolls, along with Star Wars action figures and other collectible toys are just a few examples of vintage toys that garner a great deal of interest from collectors as are Care Bears produced in more recent times
